Power is defined by the dictionary as “capability of doing or accomplishing something”, with this being said, we believe that in order to have this capability, control and being able to make decisions is necessary. Control is seen in everyday life, as from small businesses, to governments, to families.
In a small business, which is usually locally owned, you are able to see how much control the business owner has over the employees, the supply of what the business is selling, and over the land of where their business is located. When small businesses expand, they receive control, and with this control, they are able to manage their company more and continue profiting.
Control is heavily seen in governments worldwide. Governments decide what’s best for their citizens, and make the decision of what will benefit the country, and what won’t. Governments also make tons of decisions as well, they choose what type of government they’re going to be, how they’re going to be beneficial to their citizens, and their morals.
In something as small as families, control can be seen daily, from parents telling their kids to do their chores, to older siblings telling their younger siblings what to do. Not only this but there are many important decisions to be made in a family, for example, ‘How many kids will the parents decide to have?’, ‘What are family beliefs?’, etc.
Making decisions is also a big part of having power. Your decision can affect others with also influencing other people as well. Making decisions can either be you choosing wrong from right or right to wrong. Making wrong decisions can lead you to do wrong things which could make you lose control. Making the right decisions and influencing others with that can lead to you gaining leadership and control. Leadership allows people to gain trust of their peers and let people know they are the ones in charge and have control.
In conclusion, we believe power is control. This is demonstrated everywhere there is power, because it is necessary. In any situation, there will be some kind of control, and without this control, there would be nothing; we are saying without power, there is nothing.
